"...a most gifted flutist" - Julius Baker

"...a fluent flutist..." - The Cleveland Plain Dealer

John Herrick Littlefield brings to the stage a refined charismatic presence seasoned over forty years performing hundreds of concerts and infused with the heritage passed on to him through renowned flautists, his teachers, Frances Blaisdell, Claude Monteux and Julius Baker, who themselves studied and performed with yet a previous generation of legendary 19th and 20th century musicians from Europe and the United States. (As in: Claude Monteux who performed the American premiere of Poulenc’s Flute Sonata in New York with Poulenc at the piano and also played in orchestras under the batons of Stravinsky and Toscanini, Frances Blaisdell who was the first female flautist to play with the New York Philharmonic having studied with Georges Barrère, Marcel Moyse and William Kincaid, and Julius Baker who was principal solo flutist in the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein.) Mr. Littlefield carries on this musical legacy, revitalizing these influences within a 21st Century perspective, exquisitely shaping tonal solo and ensemble repertoire from Bach and Mozart through Martinu and Bolling into captivating experiences wherever his concert schedule may land him. He brings this music to life for an audience and the critics concur.

John Herrick Littlefield is equally at ease speaking and playing in informal settings or wearing white tie and tails performing on a proscenium stage. Appearing regularly with his wife on the piano and/or in a chamber music setting, he sustains this blend of the old and new with a mix of razzle-dazzle, lyrical lines and delicate sensitivity to subtle shading.
